A Dhaka court has granted bail to three prominent officials of Transcom Group, including Chairperson Shahnaz Rahman, in four cases filed by Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of Shahnaz and the late chairman Latifur Rahman. The other two officials granted bail are Chief Executive Officer Simeen Rahman and Head of Strategy and Transformation Zaraif Ayaat Hossain.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Mahbub Ahmed granted bail to the accused upon their surrender to the court, following an Appellate Division order. Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of Gulshan Police Station's General Registration Branch confirmed that bail was granted yesterday, with each accused required to furnish a surety bond of Tk5,000.

The accused, who were abroad, returned to the country and surrendered to the court on Wednesday morning, subsequently applying for bail through due legal procedures. Following a hearing, the court granted them bail in all four cases, as stated by Shahinur Islam, the lawyer representing the Transcom Group officials.

Previously, on 22 March, the Appellate Division instructed authorities to ensure the seamless return of the three officials from abroad and their surrender to the court within 72 hours. The order came in response to a petition filed by Shahzreh Huq, contesting a directive from the High Court.

Shahzreh Huq had filed three cases against eight officials, alleging embezzlement, property occupation, and illegal share transfer within the company. The cases centered on accusations that Simeen and her associates attempted to unlawfully acquire property valued at around Tk10,000 crore, which belonged to her late father, through fraudulent means.

The accused faced additional allegations related to the misappropriation of funds left by Latifur Rahman before his demise, as well as illegal acquisition of company shares and involvement in forging documents. Five other Transcom officials were previously granted bail in similar cases.

Notably, on 22 March, Shahzreh Huq filed a murder case against 11 individuals, including her elder sister Simeen Rahman, accusing them of involvement in the death of their brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman. The High Court subsequently directed Shahnaz, Simeen, and Zaraif to return from abroad and surrender before the lower court within 60 days to participate in the legal proceedings without impediment.
