Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged Brazil on Monday to consider importing readymade garments (RMG) directly from Bangladesh, aiming to enhance trade relations between the two countries.
During a courtesy call with a delegation from Brazil, led by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Prime Minister Hasina highlighted the current limited scale of RMG exports from Bangladesh to Brazil through third-party channels. She emphasized that direct imports from Bangladesh would offer Brazil more cost-effective options.
In efforts to balance trade relations, Prime Minister Hasina underscored the importance of diversifying the trade portfolio between Bangladesh and Brazil. She noted the significant trade imbalance, with Brazil currently exporting more to Bangladesh.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hasina suggested potential areas for expanded bilateral trade, including jute, jute goods, and leather items from Bangladesh, while Bangladesh imports sugar, soybean oil, and cotton from Brazil.
The prime minister expressed optimism about the potential for enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries, stressing the need for mutual efforts to explore and capitalize on available opportunities.
In addition to trade, Prime Minister Hasina emphasized the importance of strengthening overall bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Brazil during the meeting.
