Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina kicked off the two-day Livestock Services Week and Exhibition-2024, emphasizing its role in boosting the dairy and poultry farming sectors.

The premier formally commenced the exhibition at the Old Trade Fair Ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar adjacent to the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Thursday morning.

Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Hasina urged the private sector to contribute to the expansion of the livestock industry, ensuring an adequate supply of protein to meet local demand.

The event, chaired by Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman, commenced with a welcome address from Secretary Md Selim Uddin.

Representatives from the dairy and poultry sectors, including Imran Hossain from the Bangladesh Dairy Farmers’ Association and Mashiur Rahman from the Bangladesh Poultry Industry Central Council (BPICC), shared insights into their respective industries.

The program commenced with a documentary showcasing the government's achievements and progress in the livestock sector.

During her visit to the exhibition, organized by the Department of Livestock and Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the premier interacted with participants and explored the displays.

The exhibition, open from 10 am to 8 pm daily, will conclude on Friday, allowing visitors to enter the grounds free of charge.

Farmers from across the country have gathered to showcase their cattle and birds at the fair, with similar events concurrently organized in 466 upazilas across 64 districts.

Featuring 25 pavilions and 30 stalls, including seven dedicated to government authorities, the exhibition presents a diverse range of livestock from Bangladesh.

Over 3,000 farmers, representing various districts, are participating in the fair, providing an opportunity for grassroots farmers to showcase and sell their animals alongside larger companies.
