To alleviate the impact of the ongoing heatwave, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) plans to induce artificial rain across various streets of the city, announced Mayor Md Atiqul Islam.

"After receiving recommendations from the chief heat officer, we're implementing measures to provide relief to city residents. DNCC's spray cannon vehicles will be deployed to create artificial rain in Dhaka's streets," Mayor Atiqul stated during an inspection of water spraying operations in Agargaon.

With two spray machines at their disposal, each capable of dispersing approximately 400,000 liters of water daily, the vehicles will operate from 11 am to 4 pm. Additionally, smaller water spraying vehicles will navigate narrow alleys inaccessible to larger vehicles, totaling ten such vehicles for enhanced coverage.

Mayor Atiqul emphasized the expansion of this initiative, which was previously limited to specific areas on a smaller scale but will now operate regularly throughout the heatwave period. Furthermore, instructions have been issued for the creation of artificial rain in parks and sports fields within a week.

To address hydration needs, DNCC will deploy 200 vans to distribute drinking water across various areas of Dhaka North, allocating three vans per ward. These vans will also offer water near parks and sports fields, with the initiative commencing immediately.

Mayor Atiqul urged residents to take care of trees around their homes, emphasizing the collective responsibility in combating the heatwave's adverse effects.
