PM Hasina paid tribute to Michael Madhusudan Dutt in honor of the poet's 200th birthday and the planning of "Madhu Mela"

Tomorrow is the start of the nine-day 'Madhu Mela' at Sagardari village, under Keshabpur upazila in Jashore district, in honor of the famous poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt, who was born 200 years ago.

According to an official statement made here on Thursday, the "Madhu Mela" will run through January 27.

Madhusudan Dutt was born on January 25, 1824, in Sagardari village to landlord Raj Narayan Dutt and Janhabi Devi.

In a message on Thursday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to Michael Madhusudan Dutt in honor of the poet's 200th birthday and the planning of "Madhu Mela."

Additionally, the PM expressed gratitude to everyone involved in planning the Madhu Mela.

She said that numerous instances in the poet's writings demonstrate his profound empathy for his native nation and language despite his exile.

PM Hasina that Michael Madhusudan Dutt is an inspiration to the younger generation in terms of patriotism.

"I think that the programmes organized on the occasion of his birth anniversary will play a significant role in presenting the work of the poet to the young generation," she stated.

The PM wished success to every program held in honor of the fair.

Famous poet Madhusudan gained recognition in the literary world for his exceptionally imaginative writings. He is referred to as "epic poet" or Mahakobi for his tragic epic "Meghnad Badh Kavya."


The Bengali sonnet is credited to Madhusudan Dutt, who is regarded as one of the best poets in Bengali literature.

He invented "Amitrakshar Chhanda," or blank verse, as it came to be known.

Bengali author 'Sharmistha' was his first attempt at blank verse.
Madhusudan Dutt demonstrated extraordinary abilities as a playwright in addition to his exceptional talent for poetry writing. He was the first to compose plays in Bengali that were structured into acts and scenes in the English style.

Additionally, he was the forerunner of Bengali literature's first satirical plays. He is most known for his satirical plays, "Ekei Ki Boley Sabhyota" and "Buro Shaliker Ghare Ron."

The sonnet "Kapatakkha Nad" is his best-known piece of writing. The poet's ancestral house, Jashore, is traversed by the Kapatakkha Nad river.

Having studied Hebrew, Latin, Greek, Tamil, Telugu, and Sanskrit, Madhusudan was a great linguist and polyglot.

Just three days after his wife Henrietta's death, Madhusudan, 49, departed from this life on June 29, 1873, in Kolkata. Kolkata was the poet's place of death.
