Washington, Aug 11 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has announced plans to remove homeless individuals from the streets of Washington, DC, framing the move as part of a broader effort to curb rising crime in the capital. The decision has sparked widespread debate across political and social circles.

The president’s remarks come amid heightened public concern over safety in the city. Last month, Trump signed an executive order authorizing the arrest of homeless individuals nationwide. Following that order, security forces were deployed in the streets of Washington last week.

According to official data, Washington, DC — home to over 700,000 residents — has approximately 3,782 homeless people. While most live in government shelters or temporary housing, around 800 remain on the streets.

This is not Trump’s first time proposing such measures. In 2022, he suggested building “high-quality” tent facilities outside urban centers to house the homeless, equipped with toilets and medical services.

Critics argue that the plan risks criminalizing poverty, while supporters say it addresses public safety concerns and aims to connect vulnerable individuals with shelter and services.
