At least 43.09% of the electricity connections disrupted by Cyclone Remal have been restored as of 4:30 PM today (May 28). Out of 3.04 crore connections, 1.31 crore have been reconnected, according to a statement from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and the West Zone Power Distribution Company acted promptly to assess the cyclone damage and initiated restoration efforts, the statement added.

The BREB has reported losses amounting to Tk103.33 crore due to the cyclone. Meanwhile, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) and Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) are also working to recover from the cyclone's impact.

Abdullah Noman, Managing Director of DPDC, stated, "Strong winds have caused many trees to fall on electrical lines in the DPDC area. Many transformers exploded due to load mismanagement. Additionally, power had to be shut down in many areas due to waterlogging, leading to power outages. However, by Monday afternoon, the situation had improved by 70%."

Noman added that the overall power situation in the DPDC area is expected to return to normal by 9:00 PM.
