Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman stated that the motive behind the murder of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar remains unknown.

He remarked, "Neither the Bangladesh police nor the Indian police have been able to determine the reason or motive behind the murder of the member of parliament."

Rahman made these comments in response to journalists' questions at the opening ceremony of the "Database and Analysis of Road Crash (DARC) Software" training at the DMP headquarters on Wednesday.

"The conspirator and planner of this murder is currently out of the country and has not been arrested. The motive will be known only if he is apprehended," he said, referring to the main suspect who is absconding in America. Since Bangladesh does not have a prisoner exchange agreement with the US, Rahman indicated that all necessary efforts, including diplomatic channels, will be employed to secure the suspect's return.

"Given that Anar was an MP, his case will be treated with utmost importance. Even without a direct agreement, we will pursue every possible avenue through diplomatic means," he added.

Regarding the potential use of the prisoner exchange agreement with India, Rahman noted, "This incident can be tried under the laws of both Bangladesh and India, and it can be resolved through mutual discussion."
