The United States is closely monitoring the legal proceedings against Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus. Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department, expressed concerns that the cases might be a misuse of Bangladesh’s labor laws to harass and intimidate Dr. Yunus. Miller highlighted worries about the potential misuse of labor and anti-corruption laws, which could undermine the rule of law and deter foreign direct investment.
Miller stated that the US continues to urge the Bangladeshi government to ensure a fair and transparent legal process for Dr. Yunus as the appeals process progresses.
