Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India for the swearing-in ceremony of her counterpart Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term is expected to “further strengthen India-Bangladesh close and deep-rooted bonds of friendship,” according to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.

Muktesh Pardeshi, secretary for Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, welcomed the prime minister at the airport. A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying Prime Minister Hasina and her entourage arrived in Delhi at 11:51 am local time.

During her visit, the prime minister will meet Modi following the oath-taking ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening. She will also attend a state dinner hosted by the President of India and participate in several other programs in New Delhi before returning home on Monday.
