Dhaka, August 11 – Kazi Shahidullah, the Chairman of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), has resigned from his position, citing health reasons. The resignation letter was submitted to the Education Secretary on Sunday morning.
In his resignation letter, Shahidullah mentioned his ongoing medical treatment in Australia, where he has been since August 20 of the previous year. He noted that his physical condition, as advised by medical experts in Australia, has made it impossible for him to continue his duties as the UGC Chairman.
Kazi Shahidullah had been serving as the Chairman of the UGC since May 28, 2023, following his appointment by the Ministry of Education. His resignation comes amid a series of recent resignations within the academic leadership at Dhaka University, including the Vice-Chancellor and several hall principals.
The resignation marks a significant change in the leadership of the UGC, which plays a crucial role in overseeing higher education institutions in Bangladesh.
