Dhaka, August 12 – After a period of suspension due to recent nationwide violence, the Bangladesh Railway Authority has announced the resumption of train services across the country. Intercity trains are set to begin operations on August 15, with ticket sales commencing today at 5 PM, according to a press release issued by Nahid Hasan Khan, Director (Public Relations) of Bangladesh Railway.
The phased reopening of rail services will see freight trains running from today, while mail, express, local, and commuter trains are scheduled to resume from tomorrow, August 13. However, the operation of Parabat and Jamalpur Express trains will remain temporarily suspended until further notice.
The suspension of rail services was initially imposed on July 18 in response to escalating violence related to the student movement, which had severely disrupted transportation and posed safety concerns. Although limited train services were briefly restored on August 1, they were halted again after three days due to continued unrest.
The resumption of full train services marks a significant step towards normalizing transportation and ensuring connectivity across the country following weeks of turmoil.
