The Chief of the Bangladesh Army, Waker-uz-Zaman, announced today (12 August) that Army personnel will return to their cantonments once the Bangladesh Police are fully operational.

"Once the police force becomes more organized, we can begin to return to normalcy. Currently, the Army is working tirelessly, with a presence in every division. I am hopeful that the situation will stabilize soon," Waker-uz-Zaman stated during a media briefing after addressing Army members at a temporary camp set up at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

The Army Chief also mentioned that, based on the data he received, the situation in Khulna is particularly calm. "Even routine crimes that typically occur during normal times are not happening now," he added.

On the topic of police resuming their duties, he noted that 95% of police stations across the country have resumed operations, with 85% of the stations in Dhaka functioning normally.

Addressing concerns about attacks on minority communities, Waker-uz-Zaman reported that only 30 minority-related incidents had been recorded across 20 districts nationwide. "Most of these incidents involved arson and looting of temples, which were largely politically motivated," he explained.
