United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed support for the interim government’s efforts to restore calm in Bangladesh and prepare for upcoming parliamentary elections.

His deputy spokesperson, Farhan Haq, emphasized the need for inclusivity, urging the interim government to consider the voices of women, youth, minorities, and indigenous communities.

Guterres also called for the full respect of human rights in Bangladesh and reiterated the importance of an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into all acts of violence.

The interim government was formed following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amid widespread protests.
