Dhaka, August 19 — A large crowd of angry protesters surrounded the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) building in Gulshan-2 on Sunday night, demanding the removal of Mayor Atiqul Islam. The incident took place around 8:00 PM, as confirmed by an anonymous DNCC official.

The protesters gathered outside Nagar Bhaban, expressing their discontent with Mayor Atiqul Islam's leadership. The protest appeared to be fueled by frustration over the mayor's handling of recent events and his perceived lack of accountability.

However, tensions eased when the crowd was informed that Mayor Atiqul Islam was not present in the building at the time. After receiving this information, the protesters dispersed, though they accused the mayor of covering up news of their demonstration.

The incident reflects growing unrest following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5. Since then, many leaders and activists of the Awami League have reportedly gone into hiding or left the country, adding to the uncertainty and discontent among the public.
