Dhaka, Aug 21 (V7N) — In a notable diplomatic exchange, Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, reinforced China’s longstanding support for Bangladesh during a meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday.
 
The meeting, held at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office, was led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Yao Wen’s visit, which began around 11 a.m., lasted for an hour and focused on strengthening bilateral ties and future cooperation.
 
During the discussions, Yao emphasized China’s policy of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other nations, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh both politically and economically. The ambassador also announced plans to increase Chinese investment in Bangladesh, aiming to bolster the country’s development and welfare.
 
“We had a constructive and cordial discussion,” Fakhrul told reporters after the meeting. “We are delighted to have hosted the Chinese Ambassador at our office after a considerable time.”
 
Fakhrul highlighted that the BNP views this meeting as particularly significant given the current political climate, including recent student-led protests in the country. He noted that China’s commitment to Bangladesh is unwavering, underscoring Beijing’s stance against hegemony and its support for the country’s geopolitical position.
 
The BNP Secretary General also expressed appreciation for China’s global role, especially in aiding least-developed and developing nations. Yao Wen conveyed greetings from the Chinese government to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and reiterated the importance of strengthening relations between the BNP and the Chinese Communist Party.
 
Yao Wen described the discussions as productive and focused on future cooperation, emphasizing that both parties are committed to enhancing their friendly relationship and increasing exchanges.
 
The meeting was attended by BNP Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Vice-Chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, and Law Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal.
