Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N): A total of 382 Ansar members have been brought before a Dhaka court today following their arrest in connection with clashes at the Secretariat gate last night. The detained Ansar members are facing charges in cases filed with Shahbagh, Ramna, and Paltan police stations. According to Saifur Rahman, general record officer (GRO) of the court, 189 were presented in Shahbagh, 98 in Ramna, and 95 in Paltan.
The clashes erupted after Ansar members continued their protest despite a government promise to address their demands. They had blocked the Secretariat gates and engaged in violent confrontations with students and the public. The confrontation followed claims by Anti-discrimination Student Movement coordinator Hasnat Abdullah that he and others were being detained at the Secretariat.
The violence resulted in injuries to at least 40 individuals, mostly students. Additionally, a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that six army personnel were injured during the altercations.
