Khagrachari, Aug 29 (V7N) - Khagrachari has been swept by a wave of protests following derogatory remarks allegedly made by an advisor to the Ministry of Chattogram Hill Tracts. On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the movement, under the leadership of coordinator Md. Rafique Hossain, organized a protest march and rally at Shapla Chattar in Khagrachari. The unrest was triggered by comments made by advisor Supradip Chakma on August 23, 2024, during a meeting at the Khagrachari District Commissioner's office, where he allegedly made disparaging remarks about Bengalis.

The protest was attended by key figures including Md. Masud Rana, Md. Zahid Hasan, Al Amin Fahim, Parvez Ahmed, Md. Mahbub Alam, and others, such as Md. Asad Ullah, President of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Youth Council, and Khagrachari Municipality Ward Commissioner Md. Abdul Majid. Participants also included leaders from the Islamic Movement Bangladesh and the local National Party, among other affiliated groups.

The demonstrators marched from Shapla Chattar to Chenghi Square and then to the Khagrachari District Commissioner's office, where they demanded the advisor's resignation within 24 hours. They also called for the revocation of permanent residency certificates issued to Mong Circle Chiefs/Headmen.
