Dhaka, September 03 — Abdullah Hill Kafi, the Additional Superintendent of Police (North) of Dhaka District, was detained by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) on Monday night. He was apprehended at Shahjalal International Airport around 10 pm while attempting to flee the country, according to a source from the DB.

The arrest is linked to Kafi's alleged involvement in a grievous incident that took place in Dhaka's Ashulia on August 5, where students were killed and their bodies set on fire. Following this tragic event, an investigation committee was formed to probe the incident, and Kafi's name emerged during the investigation.

A DB officer, speaking to the press on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Kafi is currently being transported to the intelligence office for questioning. "We are in the process of interrogating him to gather more information regarding his involvement in the Ashulia incident," the officer stated.

At this stage, it remains unclear if formal charges will be filed against Kafi. "The decision on whether to arrest him in connection with a specific case will depend on the outcome of the questioning and further directives from higher authorities," the officer added.

The detainment of a high-ranking police official in connection with such a grave crime is highly unusual and has sparked significant concern within the law enforcement community and the public. Further developments are expected as the investigation continues.
