Dhaka, Sep 8 (V7N)- Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain has issued a strong warning, stating that any disruptions at places of worship will be met with strict legal action. "If anyone disturbs or harasses worshippers at religious sites, they will face the law. We will ensure peace," he said during a visit to Prematli Gaurang Bari Kalimandir in Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi, on Sunday.
Speaking as the chief guest at a relief distribution event for the underprivileged, the adviser urged members of the Sanatan community in Rajshahi to celebrate their festivals with enthusiasm and devotion. He reassured them that no harm would come to their temples, promising robust protection.
“If you fear attacks on your temples, rest assured that criminals will not succeed. We have engaged locals, including madrasa students, to help guard the temples. Nothing will stop us from celebrating our religious festivals,” he said.
Dr. Khalid Hossain also shared insights on the management of Sri Krishna’s temple in Mathura, India, where food and medical care are provided to those serving the temple. He encouraged similar humanitarian efforts at the Sri Krishna temple, stressing the need for both religious and social welfare initiatives.
"In addition to religious practices, arrangements should be made for providing food and medical care to those in need," he suggested.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to religious harmony, he added, “We stand with you, and you with us. Together, we will build a nation free from discrimination and sectarianism. Support us in this mission."
On Saturday evening, at a meeting with officials at Rajshahi Circuit House, the adviser emphasized the long-standing harmony between different religious communities in Bangladesh. He acknowledged a few isolated incidents but stressed that these never escalated to widespread communal conflicts. "Rogues have no religion," he said, reminding everyone to resist attempts to disrupt peace, particularly ahead of Durga Puja.
The adviser suggested that madrasa students could be enlisted as volunteers to help protect temples during the festival, and urged law enforcement to ensure the security of puja mandaps.
Regarding model mosques, Dr. Khalid Hossain pointed out the challenges in site selection, noting that some were built too close to traditional mosques, leading to unnecessary expenses. He called for better resource management and the protection of communal harmony.
The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and local administration confirmed that security measures are in place for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
