Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N): Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Adviser, expressed that the recent decision to grant magisterial powers to commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army will be advantageous for the people of Bangladesh.

Speaking at the Bangladesh Ansar VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur, during the basic training parade for the 40th BCS (Ansar) Cadre Officers and the 25th Batch (Male) Recruit Sepoy on Wednesday, he highlighted the army's ongoing role in maintaining public service and law and order. The new powers, he added, will bolster these efforts, especially in light of manpower shortages within law enforcement agencies.

"Our law enforcement forces are short of manpower, and the army is stepping in to help fill this gap," Chowdhury stated.

Regarding police officers who were absent from duty between August 1 and September 17, 2024, the adviser confirmed that they will face legal and disciplinary actions, noting that most of them were involved in misdemeanours. He urged public cooperation in apprehending these individuals.

Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) also reassured the public that the Bangladesh Army remains a people-friendly and disciplined force, emphasizing that communication with and seeking assistance from the army should not pose any difficulties.
