Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin emphasized the need for a concrete roadmap to enhance multi-sectoral engagements with Argentina during a recent meeting with Argentine Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marcelo Cesa.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of establishing strategic priorities, long-term planning, and measurable outcomes. The discussion also touched on Bangladesh's interest in gaining preferential access within MERCOSUR, the South American regional trade bloc.

Ambassador Cesa proposed initiating Foreign Office Consultations early next year to explore potential cooperation areas and requested that Bangladesh consider reopening its embassy in Buenos Aires.

The foreign secretary assured the ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' full support in facilitating interactions with chambers of commerce and trade bodies. The ambassador expressed gratitude for the ongoing cooperation from the Ministry.

During their meeting on Thursday, the foreign secretary congratulated Ambassador Cesa on the first anniversary of the Argentine Embassy's establishment in Dhaka. Cesa praised the bold initiative of Bangladesh's interim government to accede to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, a significant cause for Argentina.

Both sides noted the enthusiasm for football as a bridge between the two nations, creating opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in various sectors. They expressed a strong interest in collaborating further in trade, agriculture, agro-processing, regulatory frameworks, capacity building, shipping, energy, sports, and education.
