Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N) – Bangladesh is set to sign a tripartite agreement with Nepal and India to import hydropower from Nepal using Indian transmission lines, according to Md Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Ministry.

Speaking as the chief guest at a reception celebrating Nepal's National and Constitution Day on Friday, he revealed that a delegation from the interim government will visit Nepal shortly to finalize the power import and export agreement.

The upcoming deal, agreed upon by Bangladesh, Nepal, and India, will enable Bangladesh to import 40MW of electricity from Nepal through Indian transmission networks, six years after the nations initially reached an energy cooperation understanding.

The reception, organized by the Nepalese Embassy in Dhaka, featured remarks from the Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari. He expressed pride in the strong and growing relationship between Bangladesh and Nepal and highlighted the historic importance of Nepal’s democratic and inclusive Constitution, promulgated in 2015.

Ambassador Bhandari reiterated Nepal's commitment to supporting Bangladesh through its transitional period, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and cooperation in enhancing trade, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.

The tripartite deal for the export of 40MW electricity to Bangladesh is expected to be signed soon, signaling a milestone in the energy partnership between the two countries and India.

In addition to the formal proceedings, the event featured a cultural program with traditional Nepali folk dance performances. Political leaders from Bangladesh, high-ranking government officials, diplomats, business leaders, media representatives, and members of the Nepali community in Bangladesh were in attendance.
