Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N)- Farida Akhter, Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, stated on Saturday that the interim government is actively working to manage commodity prices, although aligning them with production costs presents significant challenges.

Speaking as the chief guest at the opening of a national technical seminar on 'Food Security and Health' at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), she noted that commodity prices are closely linked to production costs and the broader market system, making price regulation a difficult task for the interim administration.

During her address, Akhter pinpointed feed as the main obstacle to lowering poultry prices, asserting, "We must ensure feed safety because unsafe feed results in unsafe poultry." She also raised concerns regarding the detrimental use of pesticides and toxins in fishing, which poses considerable health risks to consumers.

The adviser emphasized the necessity for stricter enforcement measures to penalize those engaging in harmful fishing practices and highlighted the importance of raising food safety awareness across all sectors.

Akhter underscored the significance of the 'One Health' approach, which promotes collaboration among human, animal, and environmental health professionals. She remarked, "One Health can only be achieved through collaborative efforts."

The seminar was organized by the Bangladesh Society for Safe Food (BSSF), with BSSF President Dr. Md. Khaled Hossain presiding over the event and BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan providing patronage.
