Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N)- Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has pledged financial aid and vocational training to promote self-reliance for families of deceased and injured members of the Social Development Foundation (SDF) who participated in the July-August 2024 movement.
Dr. Salehuddin made this commitment during a ceremony at the SDF headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday, where aid and grants were distributed to the affected families. He highlighted that the participation of SDF member families in the mass movement symbolized the unity and determination evident in the July-August 2024 protests, a time when citizens from all walks of life joined together.
During these protests, seven members of SDF-supported families lost their lives on the front lines, 16 were critically injured, and another 33 were wounded while participating under the World Bank-funded Resilience, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Improvement (RELI) Project.
At the event, Dr. Salehuddin distributed financial aid as follows: Tk200,000 for each family of the seven deceased, Tk100,000 for each of the 16 critically injured, and Tk50,000 for each of the 33 others who were injured. In addition to financial assistance, the families are actively engaged in grassroots poverty alleviation and livelihood improvement activities as part of the RELI Project, aiming to build long-term resilience and independence.
