Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has discovered Tk 35.21 crore in fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) under the name of the Center for Research and Information (CRI), the research wing of the Awami League.
Following allegations of misuse of state funds, the ACC raided CRI’s office on Tuesday (February 4). However, the office was found closed during the operation.
ACC Investigation into CRI’s Financial Transactions
Speaking to reporters after the raid, ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the allegations that CRI’s board of directors had allegedly misused government funds to carry out politically motivated activities.
As part of the investigation, the ACC team has collected banking records related to CRI from multiple financial institutions, including Dutch-Bangla Bank, IFIC Bank, and Sonali Bank. The financial data will now be thoroughly analyzed to determine whether corruption occurred.
CRI Leadership Under Scrutiny
CRI is led by several influential figures:
- Chairman: Sajeeb Wazed Joy
- Vice-Chairman: Saima Wazed Putul
- Trustees: Radwan Mujib Siddique and Nasrul Hamid
With CRI officials yet to respond to the allegations, the ACC’s findings could have significant political implications.
