Dhaka, July 24 (V7N) – The recently introduced dress code for officers and employees of Bangladesh Bank has been withdrawn following instructions from the central bank's Governor, who is currently abroad.
In a statement sent to the media on Thursday, Bangladesh Bank clarified that while discussions were held at departmental meetings regarding advising all staff to dress professionally and modestly in line with social norms, no official policy decision or circular had been issued.
However, an earlier office order from the Human Resources Department, dated Monday (July 21), had instructed employees to wear formal shoes and, for those who wear religious coverings, plain headscarves or hijabs. It also mentioned the appointment of a monitoring officer to ensure compliance. Non-compliance was to be treated as a disciplinary breach.
After this internal directive became public and sparked widespread discussion in the media, the matter drew the attention of the Honorable Governor. Expressing displeasure over the development, he instructed an immediate withdrawal of the dress code guidelines.
The central bank's statement emphasized that the Governor's directive overrides the internal communication and the matter is considered withdrawn as of now.
