Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co. Ltd., a Chinese company, has announced plans to invest $27.8 million in establishing a sock manufacturing industry within the BEPZA Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ) situated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN), Mirsharai, Chattogram. The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony attended by Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA). Ali Reza Mazid, BEPZA's Member (Investment Promotion), and Fang Zhendong, Managing Director of Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co. Ltd., signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at the BEPZA Complex. The company aims to produce 216 million pairs of socks annually for men, women, and children, creating employment opportunities for 5192 Bangladeshi nationals. Expressing gratitude for choosing BEPZA EZ for investment, the BEPZA Executive Chairman welcomed Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co. Ltd. as a new member and pledged full support for the project. The signing ceremony was attended by various officials from BEPZA and representatives of the enterprise.
