On Friday, meat prices, particularly beef and chicken, surged in Dhaka's kitchen markets, while vegetable prices remained stable.

Visits to various kitchen markets, including Mohakhali, Karwan Bazar, Rampura, Malibagh, and Shanti Nagar, revealed slight increases in beef and chicken prices compared to previous days of the week.

Beef prices ranged between Tk650 to 800 per kg, witnessing an uptick of Tk30 per kg. Similarly, mutton and goat meat were priced at Tk1050 to 1150 per kg, marking an increase of Tk50 per kg.

Broiler chicken prices rose to Tk230 to 240 per kg from Tk220 last week. Sonali chicken and cock chicken were also affected, now priced at Tk340 to 360 per kg and Tk360 to 370 per kg, respectively. Layer chicken and indigenous (desi) chicken were available at Tk300 per kg and Tk650 to Tk700 per kg, respectively.

Traders attributed the hike in chicken prices to increased costs of chicken feed and broiler chicks.

Meanwhile, vegetable prices remained relatively steady, with slight increases observed for new vegetables like okra, drumsticks, string beans, and bitter gourd. Drumsticks were priced at Tk140 to 160 per kg, while other vegetables ranged from Tk40 to 100 per kg or per piece.

Onion prices ranged from Tk40 to 60 per kg, garlic from Tk180 to 250 per kg, and ginger from Tk200 to 280 per kg. Egg prices remained stable, with brown eggs priced at Tk145 per dozen, egg ducks at Tk70 per four pieces, and home-rearing hen eggs at Tk80 per four pieces.

Overall, prices of other kitchen items remained unchanged this week.
