Multiple individuals needed medical treatment at a hospital following a United Airlines flight bound for Newark International Airport in New Jersey being redirected to an airport in Orange County, New York due to rough air conditions on Friday. More than 300 people were on United Airlines Flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark when it was redirected to Stewart International Airport at about 6:45 p.m. because of strong winds and turbulence, as stated by authorities. According to Eyewitness News, the plane was given permission to land in Newark after flying for 11 hours from Israel. However, the pilots decided to abort the landing when they were about 750 feet above the ground. They informed air traffic controllers that they had encountered "wind shear," a sudden shift in wind direction, and chose to cancel the landing. Travelers started to become afraid when the regular flight turned into a turbulent ride.
Traveler Roi Gonen commented, "It felt just like Six Flags," "My heart skipped a couple of beats." I sent a message to my wife just to be sure. Gonen noticed that fear was starting to spread among the passengers. He reported, "I saw a woman getting sick two seats behind me." With fuel running out, the pilots had to make a sudden landing at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh. Paramedics were waiting at the airport to help more than twenty passengers who had gotten sick during the flight. According to New Windsor EMS, seven individuals were taken to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall with minor injuries, a few of which included complaints of potential motion sickness.
