Khulna, July 30 (V7N) — For the first time, garlic has been imported through Mongla Port, marking a new milestone for the port. The Singapore-flagged vessel MV Marks Davao docked at Mongla Port on July 28, bringing 58 metric tons of garlic from Qingdao, China.

Khulna Traders received the garlic in 229 TEU containers on Monday, following the completion of customs inspections. The import was facilitated by Puravi Traders, who brought in the garlic in two 40-foot containers. The garlic will be distributed to various wholesale markets across the country by road.

Mongla Port Authority Deputy Director Md. Makruzzaman confirmed the successful handling of this first garlic shipment. From July 1 to July 27, Mongla Port managed a total of 595,000 metric tons of cargo, including exports of jute, shrimp, white fish, and ready-made garments, as well as imports of machinery, fertilizer, coal, and more.
