Cox's Bazar, Aug 29 (V7N) - At the Cox's Bazar Fish Landing Center, 100 hilsa fish, each weighing 1 kilogram, are being sold for Tk 1 Lakh 50 thousands. Traders are purchasing these fish at wholesale prices directly from the trawler owners. Additionally, 100 hilsa weighing 900 grams each are priced between Tk 1 Lakh 50 thousands and Tk 1 Lakh 20 thousands, while 100 fish weighing 800 grams each are being sold for Tk 1 to 1 Lakh 15 thousands.
On Thursday morning (August 29), it was observed that after the fish were unloaded and stacked at the landing center, negotiations were underway to determine the price. The trawler owners sell the fish to the highest bidder. The fish are then covered in ice and carefully packed into baskets for transportation to various locations across the country.
Traders explained that adverse weather conditions had prevented fishermen from going out to sea for several days. As a result, there are fewer fish at the landing center, causing prices to rise.
Trader Mohammad Selim noted that 1,000 kilograms of hilsa are priced at Tk 1 Lakh 50 thousands, 90 kilograms at Tk 1 Lakh 15 thousands to 1 Lakh 20 thousands, and 80 kilograms at Tk 1 Lakh to 1 Lakh 15 thousands. The higher prices are due to a reduced number of trawlers making landfall, but prices are expected to drop as more trawlers return to sea.
Shamsul Alam, owner of the trawler "Allah's Blessing," reported that only about 10 trawlers had docked today, bringing in 20,000 to 25,000 hilsa. The lower catch has led to higher prices.
In addition to hilsa, various other types of fish such as tuna, coral, loitta, faisa, chapila, and poa are also being brought in by fishermen at the Cox's Bazar Fish Landing Center.
