Dhaka, Sept 7 (V7N): Security in Gazipur has been ramped up, with all industries, including garment factories, reopening as workers and officials returned to their duties in groups on Saturday morning.

Industrial police have been deployed in key factory areas, and the army is patrolling to ensure peace and order. The reopening comes after several days of unrest, protests, road blockades, and vandalism, which had prompted some factories to declare temporary holidays.

Following consultations with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and assurances from the government regarding security measures, factory owners decided to resume operations.

Workers have reported that most of them are not involved in any ongoing protests, blaming outsiders for the disruptions. They emphasized their desire to work in a peaceful environment.

Factory owners, meanwhile, have urged law enforcement to take firm action against those attempting to create unrest or sabotage the industrial sector.

Imran Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Police of Gazipur Industrial Zone-2, confirmed that all factories have resumed operations, and around 900 industrial police officers, along with the army, are on patrol to maintain security.

Factories in areas such as Tongi, Board Bazar, Bhogra, Laxmipura, Konabari, Kashimpur, and Kaliakoir are among those that have reopened.
