Up till Friday evening, the relatives of 39 of the 46 individuals who perished in the horrific fire that broke out on Thursday night in the seven-story commercial building on Bailey Road in Dhaka had been handed over access to their remains.

Six of the unidentified bodies were held at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and one at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery because no one had claimed them as of Friday night, according to Md Bachhu Miah, the police outpost in-charge of DMCH. A DNA test would be required for identification.

He said that the DMCH and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery are currently treating twelve burn victims.

The fire that broke out at the seven-story Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Thursday night resulted in at least 46 deaths, including 26 women and three children, and 22 badly injured.

The deceased included Sampoorna Poddar, age 11, her younger brother Sankolpa San, age 8, children of Shipon Poddar of Jatrabari in Dhaka, Ashraful Islam, age 25, son of Jahirul Islam of Brahmanbaria, Nurul Islam, age 32, son of a mosque of Dhaka's Bangshal, Popy Roy, age 33, daughter of Pran Nath Roy of Dhaka, and others.
