Dhaka, Feb 25 (V7N) – A moderate earthquake jolted various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, on Tuesday morning.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the earthquake was recorded at 6:40:25 AM. Rubayet Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center, confirmed that the tremor had a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale.

Epicenter and Impact

  • The earthquake's epicenter was in the Bay of Bengal, near West Bengal and Odisha in India.
  • It was located 501 kilometers away from Bangladesh.
  • The tremor was mildly felt in Bangladesh, with coastal districts experiencing stronger effects.

While the quake caused mild shaking in various parts of the country, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received. However, authorities are monitoring the situation for any delayed impacts.

The neighboring Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha reportedly felt stronger tremors, as the earthquake's epicenter was closer to their region.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols in case of any aftershocks.
