Dhaka, Mar 08 (V7N) – The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six individuals involved in a sensational gold robbery in Banasree, where a gold merchant was shot and robbed. Law enforcement has also recovered the looted gold ornaments and illegal weapons.

DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali confirmed the arrests during a briefing on Saturday (March 8) morning. He stated that further details will be disclosed in a press conference at the DMP Media Center later in the afternoon.

On February 23, around 10:30 PM, a group of robbers ambushed gold merchant Anwar Hossain (43) in front of House No. 20, Road No. 7, D Block, Banasree. The attackers shot and stabbed him before fleeing with 200 gold bars and one lakh taka in cash.

A video of the attack went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage and concern over security in the capital.

Following the incident, the victim’s wife filed a case at Rampura Police Station on February 24. The DB launched an investigation, which led to the arrests and recovery of stolen items.
