Chittagong, Mar 22 (V7N)- Workers of JMS Garments Limited, a factory located in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), staged a protest and blocked a major road on Saturday, demanding their unpaid salaries and Eid bonuses.

The workers began their demonstration around 11 AM, bringing traffic to a standstill on the Agrabad-Airport road. The blockade caused significant disruption, leaving goods-carrying trucks and lorries stranded on both sides of the road, particularly in the Chittagong port area. Commuters and transport operators faced severe inconvenience as a result of the protest.

According to the Industrial Police, JMS Garments Limited had previously announced a layoff due to a shortage of work and banking complications. However, workers became agitated when their salaries, allowances, and Eid bonuses were not paid as per labor laws. The frustration over unpaid dues led them to take to the streets in protest.

Upon receiving reports of the blockade, members of the Industrial Police, EPZ Police Station, Ansar, and Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) security personnel arrived at the scene. After negotiations and intervention, authorities were able to bring the situation under control, and traffic resumed around 2:30 PM.

While the protest has ended, tensions remain high among workers, who continue to demand their rightful payments before Eid.
