Dhaka, Apr 24 (V7N)- In a coordinated operation conducted by the National Intelligence Service (NSI), Bangladesh Army, and the Police, a total of 22 brokers, including five women, were arrested from Mugda Medical College Hospital in the capital early Thursday morning.

The operation, carried out as part of a crackdown on organized hospital brokerage networks, targeted individuals disguised as patients who were found redirecting real patients to nearby private hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers in exchange for commissions.

The detainees were immediately tried by a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Mohidur Rahman of the Motijheel Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police. All 22 individuals were sentenced to 15 days of simple imprisonment.

“These brokers were manipulating vulnerable patients by offering various incentives and directing them away from government medical services,” said Magistrate Mohidur Rahman. “They have been operating this illegal activity day after day, disrupting public health services.”

Out of those arrested, 17 were men and 5 were women. Authorities confirmed that surveillance and similar operations will continue to eliminate middlemen and restore discipline in government healthcare institutions.
