Dhaka, May 16 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice banning all forms of gatherings, rallies, processions, and demonstrations at nine sensitive locations including the Chief Justice’s residence and the Supreme Court gate. The move comes amid heightened tensions and is aimed at maintaining law and order.

The directive was announced in a notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Thursday (May 15) afternoon.

According to the notice, under the authority granted by Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76), all kinds of public assemblies and demonstrations are prohibited at the following locations:

  • Chief Justice’s official residence

  • Justice Bhaban

  • Judges Complex

  • Main gate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court

  • Mazar Gate

  • Jame Masjid Gate

  • Entry gates of International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2

  • Judicial Administration Training Institute building

The restrictions take effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice.

The DMP also urged all concerned to refrain from blocking roads in the name of protests, as such actions disrupt public movement and emergency services.

This follows a similar ban imposed by the DMP on May 10, which restricted gatherings in the Jamuna area, including the official residences of the Bangladesh Secretariat and the Chief Advisor.

Authorities said the bans are part of a broader effort to prevent disruptions and ensure safety in key government and judicial zones, particularly as tensions rise over recent political and legal developments.
