Dhaka, Jun 8 (V7N) – On the second day of Eid-ul-Azha, animal sacrifices are being carried out across the country, including in the capital Dhaka. Many individuals and families who could not perform the ritual on the first day due to a shortage of butchers or because of family traditions, chose to conduct their sacrifices on Sunday morning.

In Dhaka, several neighborhoods witnessed the continuation of the Eid rituals, particularly among families who traditionally sacrifice on 11th Zilhaj, a day regarded as sacred in Islam. As per Islamic teachings, the second day of Eid-ul-Azha holds significant religious importance, with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stating that “the best day in the sight of Allah is the Day of Sacrifice, and the day after.”

Speaking to reporters, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia revealed that over 133,000 animals were sacrificed in the DSCC area on the first day alone and confirmed that 100% of the waste from those sacrifices has already been cleared. He assured that the waste generated on the second day will also be removed within six hours.

Waste management activities were observed to be ongoing in various cities and towns throughout the country. In Chittagong, City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain confirmed that all sacrificial waste had been cleared by Saturday evening. Similar clean-up efforts were reported in divisional cities, districts, upazilas, and municipalities, reflecting a coordinated nationwide effort.

To handle the high volume of animal waste, the Eid holidays for cleaning staff were canceled this year. Support also came from student volunteers, political party workers, and members of different social organizations, who assisted local authorities in ensuring hygienic and timely waste disposal.

These efforts highlight the combined spirit of religious devotion, civic responsibility, and community cooperation across Bangladesh during this holy festival.
