Gazipur, Sept 19 (V7N) – Several Durga idols under construction were vandalized at a temple in Kashimpur, Gazipur. The incident occurred at the Shmashan Temple, organized by the Agragami Yuba Sangha for the annual Durga Puja.

Officer-in-Charge of Kashimpur Police Station, Moniruzzaman, confirmed that unidentified individuals damaged the idols on Wednesday afternoon.

Prabir Dutta, president of the Puja committee, said that artisans had paused idol-making due to rain and covered the partially completed idols with tarpaulins. Miscreants took advantage of this and vandalized five to six idols. The destruction was discovered in the evening and reported to the police, who later inspected the site.

Dutta added that the attack occurred between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Since the idols were still unpainted, the damage included Ganesh’s broken trunk, Kartik’s damaged neck, horse ears, and scratches on other idols.

Moniruzzaman noted that authorities suspect the vandals may have entered the temple intending to steal and caused the damage in the process. Senior police officials visited the temple after receiving the report. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether the idols were intentionally vandalized or damaged while unfinished.

The police have assured that the case is being thoroughly investigated.
