Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N) — Ayesha, a domestic worker accused in the gruesome double murder of a mother and daughter in the capital’s Mohammadpur, killed them following an argument over stolen money, police said.

DMP Additional Police Commissioner SN Md. Nazrul Islam revealed the information at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Thursday afternoon.

He said Ayesha had stolen 2,000 taka from the residence a day before the murder. When Laila Afroz, the homeowner, confronted her, an argument ensued. Laila later attempted to hand Ayesha over to the police, prompting the domestic worker to kill both Laila and her daughter Nafisa Lawal binte Azia out of anger.

After committing the murders, Ayesha looted a laptop and other valuables, then fled the scene disguised in a school uniform. Police also found that Ayesha had previously stolen 200,000 taka from her sister’s house.

Police arrested Ayesha on Wednesday from Jhalakathi, where she had fled with the help of her husband Rabbi, whom she had informed about the killings soon after committing the crime.

The bodies of Laila Afroz and her daughter were recovered on Monday morning from their apartment on Shahjahan Road. CCTV footage showed Ayesha entering the flat at 7:52 am wearing a burqa, and leaving at 9:30 am dressed in Nafisa’s school uniform and carrying a bag.

Laila’s husband, Azizul Islam, filed a murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station on Monday night.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
