Dhaka, Dec 21 (V7N) — Ordinary citizens are still flocking to the grave of martyred Sharif Osman Hadi to pay their respects, as an atmosphere of mourning and emotion prevails in the area surrounding his final resting place.
Visitors were seen gathering near the graveyard beside the Dhaka University Central Jame Mosque and the entrance adjacent to the mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Even after evening turned into night, the presence of people remained noticeable. Some stood at a distance offering silent prayers, while others waited patiently for a chance to approach the grave. A number of visitors were also seen taking photos on their mobile phones in remembrance, blending grief with love and respect, making the entire area heavy with emotion.
The security cordon at the front section of the graveyard has been withdrawn. Barricades previously set up in the Shahbagh police station and TSC areas have also been removed. However, police personnel remain deployed at various points to monitor the situation. Members of the law enforcement agencies were also seen maintaining a cautious stance at the mosque gate used for graveyard entry and at the main outer gate.
Sources concerned said police patrols will continue at the graveyard throughout the night in the interest of security. During this time, no one is being allowed to enter the graveyard, and visitors are permitted to offer prayers only from outside.
A law enforcement officer on duty said police would remain stationed in the area overnight, adding that heightened security measures may continue in the area the following day as a precaution.
Earlier, at around 3:30 pm, Sharif Osman Hadi was laid to rest beside the mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, adjacent to the Dhaka University Central Jame Mosque.
Before the burial, Hadi’s funeral prayer was held at 2:30 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. The janazah was attended by hundreds of thousands of people and was led by his elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddique.
The continued public presence at his grave underscores the widespread impact of Sharif Osman Hadi’s death and the deep sense of loss felt across society.
