Manzoor Alam's panel defeated their rivals handily in a nonviolent election that took place on Monday, April 29, at Ukhiya Morichya Palang High School in Cox's Bazar.
The election, conducted from 10 am to 4 pm, saw active participation from the community, with ten candidates vying for positions on the management committee. Manzoor Alam, the UP member of the 1st ward of Haldia Palang Union in Ukhiya, led his panel to success, while the opposing panel led by Imrul Kayes Chowdhury faced defeat.
Kapil Uddin Sikdar emerged as the top vote-getter with 710 votes, followed by Nazir Ahmad with 672 votes, Obaidul Haque with 481 votes, and Mohammad Zaheer with 377 votes. Mohammad Ullah, the Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer (Acting), confirmed the peaceful conduct of the election, with no untoward incidents reported. Out of 1,244 eligible voters, 962 cast their votes, with 58 votes invalidated. Following the announcement of the results, a celebratory procession took place at Morichya station.
Notable figures, including Vice Chairman of Ukhia Upazila Parishad Jahangir Alam, former Chairman Principal Shah Alam, and UP member M. Manzoor Alam, were present during the festivities. Later in the evening, the winners met with Alhaj Abdur Rahman Badi, a former member of parliament from Ukhiya-Teknaf, as a courtesy gesture.
