Dhaka, Sep 19 (V7N)– The Kazipara metro station, which had been closed for repairs, will resume operations from tomorrow, September 20, according to Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

"The station will reopen tomorrow after an investment of Tk20.5 lakh. Although some necessary equipment is still pending installation, we prioritized reopening for the convenience of commuters," said Abdur Rouf. He added that the remaining equipment would be installed gradually, potentially increasing the overall cost.

In addition, starting tomorrow, the metro service will also operate on Fridays, with trains running from 3:30 pm to the usual night schedule. The train frequency will vary, with headways of 10, 8, and 12 minutes depending on the time.

An official order was issued by DMTCL yesterday to implement this change, and the metro will now operate from Uttara North to Motijheel from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm, and from Motijheel to Uttara North from 3:50 pm to 9:40 pm every Friday.

The Kazipara station, along with Mirpur-10, had been closed following vandalism on July 19 during a protest organized by the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement. Vandals damaged ticket vending machines and passenger entry systems, leading to a 37-day closure.

While metro operations resumed on August 25, Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations remained shut. The initial repair estimate for both stations was Tk300 crore, but a committee is now reviewing the costs. Abdur Rouf mentioned that sourcing equipment locally is expected to lower the final expenses.

It is anticipated that the Mirpur-10 station will remain closed for a few more months.
