Dhaka, Sep 23 (V7N) – The Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association has announced that students in the metro areas will now be able to avail half fare on buses every day of the week.

Saiful Alam, general secretary of the association, revealed in a press release on Monday that starting from Tuesday, students will enjoy the half fare from 6 AM to midnight, seven days a week. Previously, the half-fare scheme was limited to five days. To access the benefit, students must either wear their uniforms or present a valid student ID. This policy will only be applicable to buses operating within metro areas.

The decision follows an August 21 meeting at the association's central office, where leaders of the Nirapad Sarak Chai movement and transport association officials discussed student fares and broader issues related to the road transport sector. The movement leaders had requested the expansion of the half fare to cover the full week, referencing a circular issued by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on December 1, 2021, which initially implemented the scheme excluding Fridays and Saturdays.
