Sept 26, V7N - Dhaka's air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category this morning with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 99 at 9:00 am, placing it 15th globally for poor air quality. Cities like Lahore, Dubai, and Hanoi topped the list with significantly worse AQI scores of 191, 172, and 168, respectively.

While an AQI between 50 and 100 is considered acceptable, it may still pose health risks for those sensitive to air pollution. The AQI in Bangladesh is determined based on levels of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone (O3).

Air pollution is a persistent issue for Dhaka, with conditions worsening during winter months and improving with the arrival of the monsoon. Globally, air pollution is a major health risk, contributing to the deaths of an estimated seven million people annually, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
