Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N)- Cyclone 'Dana' has intensified into a severe cyclone over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, prompting the country’s sea ports to issue local warning signal number 3. This information was disclosed in Special Weather Notice No. 8, released at midnight on Wednesday.
As of 3 PM on Wednesday, Cyclone 'Dana' was reported to be located 605 km southwest of Chittagong seaport, 560 km southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 510 km south of Mongla seaport, and 490 km south-southwest of Payra seaport. The cyclone has moved further north-northwestward and is expected to continue this trajectory.
According to the bulletin, maximum sustained winds near the cyclone's center are recorded at 90 km/h, with gusts increasing up to 110 km/h. The sea conditions are described as very rough in the vicinity of the cyclone’s center, necessitating caution.
In response to these developments, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports have been instructed to display local warning signal number 3. Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea are advised to seek safe shelter until further notice.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the country prepares for the potential impacts of the cyclone, ensuring the safety of residents and maritime activities along the coastal areas.
