Rajshahi, Mar 17 (V7N)– A light drizzle has brought much-needed relief to Rajshahi, commencing at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 17, across the district and surrounding areas.
The rainfall, following a period of intense heat, is expected to benefit various crops, including mangoes, paddy, and wheat, according to the Agriculture Office.
The Rajshahi Meteorological Office reported cloudy skies since Sunday night, with the sun remaining obscured until 11 a.m. Monday. The drizzle has led to a slight decrease in daytime temperatures.
"The light rain has brought relief," said Mainul Islam, a rickshaw puller. "It has been extremely hot for the last two-three days. It feels very good to have such cold rain water at the end of winter."
Anwara Begum, an observer at the Rajshahi Meteorological Observatory, indicated the possibility of further rainfall throughout the day due to the overcast conditions. She noted that the minimum temperature recorded was 22.8 degrees Celsius, with 55 percent humidity at 9 a.m. While the rain may slightly lower temperatures, the cloud cover could potentially lead to an increase in maximum temperatures.
Umme Salma, Deputy Director of the Rajshahi Department of Agricultural Extension, highlighted the positive impact of the rain on mango crops.
"This rain is good for mangoes," she said. "As a result, the mango pods will be strong. After a long drought, light rain will be beneficial for farmers, but there is a need to irrigate the mango orchards."
The rainfall has provided a welcome respite from the recent heat and is expected to contribute to the health of local agricultural produce.
