The recent analysis by InfluenceMap sheds light on the alarming disparity in global carbon emissions, revealing that 80 percent of such emissions from 2016 to 2022 were generated by just 57 companies. These findings underscore the significant contribution of both state-controlled entities and investor-owned companies to the climate crisis. Despite the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, which aimed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, many of the world's top carbon-producing companies have increased their production since then, with a notable shift towards state-controlled entities and nation-states in coal mining and usage. This trend highlights the urgent need for international cooperation and government intervention to curb the expansion of fossil fuel production and ensure a sustainable transition to renewable energy sources.
